goEast's interdisciplinary side bar program brings filmmakers, artists and the audience from the Rhine-Main area together and aims to increase the visibility of Central and Eastern European culture in our region. "High culture" and "popular culture" meet and stimulate each other in order to dissolve their supposed contradictions.
September 2020 we will hold an actual picnic in cooperation with cultural associations from the Rhine-Main area. Futhermore, a walk with short films will be presented in Wiesbaden-Klarenthal by the Hamburg based artists' group "A Wall is a Screen". Dates and further information will be given soon.
Other events have already taken place during the festival week at goEast > online in May.
The Pan-European Picnic is supported by Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain as part of the funding initiative "Erzählung.Macht.Identität".
+++ 18.09.2020 For the Film Walk, there are 150 participants allowed+++
Date: September 18, 2020, Starting Time 9:15 PM
Place: Parking lot in front of Mix Markt, Goerdelerstraße 49A, Wiesbaden-Klarenthal
"A Wall is a Screen" turns the facades of buildings and houses into surfaces for the projection of moving pictures. The cinematic urban exploration staged by the Hamburg-based artists collective aims to animate the Wiesbaden evening and shine a light on the city's lesser-known corners. Together with the audience and armed with modern mobile projection equipment, "A Wall is a Screen" will stroll through the residential district of Klarenthal and show Eastern European short films at places that have remained largely neglected to date. The neighbourhood is already home to many Wiesbadeners with Eastern European roots –their culture will also be made visible in the scope of this unique outing. The shared intervention seeks to redefine public space, transforming architecture into open-air "big screens", while placing both film and location in a new context.
"A Wall is a Screen" always manages to delight audiences anew: this year's visual exploration of the city is one-of-a-kind, unique – and specially conceived this time for Wiesbaden-Klarenthal and goEast.
Date: September 19, 2020, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
Place: Luisenplatz, Wiesbaden
