SKUPLJAČI PERJA I EVEN MET HAPPY GYPSIES
Aleksandar Petrović is one of the star directors of the 1960s, his “feather gatherers” are icons of Yugoslav cinema and its “black wave”. The story revolving around jealousy, love and violence is classic, the drama of charmer and drinker Beli Bora Perjar and his counterpart Mirta is deadly. Set in Serbian Vojvodina, this film left an indelible mark on the image of those once (and still) referred to as “gypsies”: a mix of goose feathers and romantic flings, muddy existences and animal instincts. We will illuminate this classic’s contribution to the cinematic construction of a “gypsy” image in our Symposium.
