NASH VEK OUR CENTURY
Cheers of joy can be heard in director extraordinaire Artavazd Peleshyan's OUR CENTURY as well. "A work about, with and against montage", as Serge Daney expressed it. In a certain sense, this film is a response to OUR GAGARIN – at times similar footage was employed. Only, here, Peleshyan ended up creating a deeply pessimistic global narrative about technological progress and human hubris in the 20th century, using his famous distance montage technique. In addition to Russian footage, the director also incorporates recontextualizations of American archival material in his destructive, rhythmic film poem, made prior to the Perestroika era.
