SPACE DOGS SPACE DOGS
In 1957, a Soviet canine made history: Laika officially became the first living creature deliberately sent into Earth orbit. Her flight is considered the impetus for the first manned space flight. Alas, sadly the dog did not survive the journey. A legend says that Laika's spirit lives on in the stray dogs of Moscow. SPACE DOGS takes up their wanderings, while turning casual observations into a philosophical search for traces. Set to the spherical music of John Gürtler and Jan Miserre, the film combines intrepid images of the dogs that haunt the streets of the Russian capital today with impressive archival material from the late 1950s.
