THE DANUBE EXODUS THE DANUBE EXODUS
Captain Nándor Andrásovitz documented life on his river cruise ship "Queen Elisabeth" while travelling up and down the Danube. Director Peter Forgacs shaped this archival footage into a compelling montage film. In 1939, the Jewish community of Bratislava rented two ships to transport 900 individuals from Slovakia, Hungary and Austria to safety in Palestine. One year later, Andrásovitz sailed in the opposite direction, this time bearing hundreds of German refugees from Bessarabia on the run from the approaching Red Army.
