Lecture by Gabrielle Chomentowski How to become a film-worker? A historical perspective on film training for future Central Asian professionals in 20th century
Gabrielle Chomentowski is a historian and researcher at the Centre for Contemporary Social History at Sorbonne unviersity in Paris. Her research focusses on the social and cultural history of cinema in a transnational perspective, in Soviet, French and former colonial areas. She works on histories of film schools, festivals and on international cooperation during the Cold War, while teaching Social History and Transnational Perspectives of Film History. She has published numerous articles, including on collaboration between the USSR, African countries and the Middle East in the 1960s. Her book “Filmer l’Orient: politique des nationalités et cinéma en Union soviétique 1917-1938” appeared in 2016.
