Numerous awards, including three Oscar nominations, have been given to this outstandingly strong love story.
In sensual black and white images, COLD WAR tells the story of the composer Wiktor, who during the Polish reconstruction is in search of traditional melodies for a new dance and music ensemble.
He wants to bring new vitality to the cultural life of his country. Among his students is the singer Zula, who electrifies Wiktor right from the start.
Beautiful, enchanting and full of energy, Zula soon becomes the centre of the ensemble and the two fall in love with each other. But as the ensemble's repertoire becomes increasingly politicized, Wiktor uses an appearance in East Berlin to flee to the West. Zula stays away from the arranged escape and yet fate brings the two lovers together again in Paris years later.
Between home and exile, between passion and loss, Poland, Yugoslavia and France, and against the backdrop of the Cold War exist the scenes of the fatal love of a couple that, cannot live without each other and yet find almost no peace with each other.
