GOEAST PRESENTS

SPOOR (POKOT)

Story

The Polish author Olga Tokarczuk won the Nobel Prize for Literature this year: a perfect occasion for goEast to present the adaptation of her novel 'Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead' directed by Agnieszka Holland.

The retired bridge construction engineer and eccentric Janina Duszejko pursues her hobbies as astrologer, vegetarian, human and animal connoisseur. She lives in the mountains and regularly takes on the backwood men's world - hunters, priests and corrupt policemen. When these hunters, all important gentlemen, are found dead one after another, Duszejko raises the theory that they have been murdered by wild animals. But who is really responsible for their deaths?

Holland, who directed some episodes of the US series HOUSE OF CARDS and became known in Germany with HITLERJUNGE SALOMON, interweaves this subversive whodunit with breathtaking shots of landscapes, an opulent soundtrack, cutting humor and whimsical-loveable characters, including numerous boars, roe deer, badgers, hedgehogs and insects.

Agnieszka Holland's SPOOR is a furious genre mix that can be described as an anarchist eco-feminist thriller with social utopian moments. At the sold-out goEast Matinee, the silver-bear winner of Berlinale 2017 was celebrated by the audience.
