goEast Presents

With casual black humor, director Štěpán Altrichter tells the story of a dangerous loner: Vandam, the former hero of a run- down suburb who stubbornly fights for the preservation of his favorite pub, which has been targeted by real estate sharks. Vandam is also in love with the lady who owns the pub, so in his struggle the ends justify the means.

The story takes place in Prague, but men like Vandam and his buddies with their hatred for "those up there" and everyone below them, are probably everywhere, between Kiel, Garmisch and Görlitz.

Based on the novel of the same name by Jaroslav Rudiš, the director creates an ironic, sometimes painfully realistic, political film with a magnificent lead actor: Hynek Čermák.
