How to: Oppose Othering without losing your sense of humour

Diskussion

Censorship and a missing sense of humor: two arguments often hold against people who think that respectful encounters in the arts and an ethical stance in film are important elements. Political correctness and theoretical debates on the other hand often miss the core of problems. This discussion deals with the content of these reproaches and with what a possible answer could look like.

goEast Development Award

Project Market Pitch
The participants of the East-West Talent Lab will present 14 selected project ideas from the areas of short fiction film, documentary film, experimental film, video art and virtual reality to an expert jury and an attending audience. The young talents come from Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Macedonia, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Germany, among other countries. Each presenter will be allotted five minutes for their pitch, which will be followed by immediate feedback from the expert jury, composed this year of Stefan Arsenijević (director, screenwriter and program manager of FIRST FILMS FIRST, Belgrade), Anna Berthollet (sales and festival coordinator at Taskovski Films, London) and Holger Stern (editor for feature film coproductions at ZDF/ARTE). The best pitch will be honoured with the goEast Development Award, which has been presented since 2014 and is endowed with prize money in the amount of 3,500 euros. The jury will announce the winning project in the scope of the goEast awards ceremony.
13:30 Uhr - Festivalzentrum

How to: Withstand political pressure

Panel discussion

Political pressure can take on all kind of shapes: authorities cut funding, hold back shooting permissions, threaten filmmakers and broadcasting stations cancel programs. Only one thing is certain: political pressure makes working on potentially critical topics much more difficult and puts obstacles in the way of the audience as well. Possible strategies about how to defend film against political pressure will be discusses.
