CALL ME MARIANNA

Marianna was born in the wrong body and summons the courage to undergo a sex change at the age of 43. Her family however offers no support and her plans are met with incomprehension. Her only solace is the affection of an older gentleman, who loves her just the way she is. After a difficult process, which we are privileged to witness, she enters into a dialogue with her past in a theatre piece. With its sensitive images, this award-winning film paints a portrait of a woman who no longer wishes to hide. The director documents Marianna’s everyday life, her painful transition to womanhood, showing snapshots of happy moments as well as thoughtful exchanges about the acceptance of transsexuals in society.
