COCONUT HEAD GENERATION

Symposium

This film by Alain Kasanda documents campus life in the Nigerian city of Ibadan between 2019 and 2021. Weekly film club meet-ups play a crucial role in the politization of a young generation of students: every Thursday, they are the scene of heated yet focussed discussions about feminism, migration, human rights, colonialism and politics. In October 2020, the situation escalates when it becomes apparent that the brutal police tactics of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) do not shy away from outright murder. The students take to the streets and a second wave of the EndSARS movement begins to spread.
