THREE STORIES

Everything stays different? - The Wild Nineties

A poet tries to bury his annoying neighbour in the boiler room; a femme fatale despises all humans and takes action against the most useless among them; a young girl rids herself of a pesky old man who wants to teach her chess. Kira Muratova’s look at the subject of murder is an exciting mixture of long takes and postmodern trash motifs. The unifying element between the three episodes is the untragic, repeated killing, as well as the masterfully filmed atmosphere of post-communist decadence: eccentric characters cavort unpunished on the remains of the past, liberated by the cessation of censorship.
