BORDER

Signature

The Armenian-Azerbaijani border region following the demise of the Soviet Union. The barren landscape is scarred by traces of war, some of the ruins still swathed in smoke. An almost wordless story about the inhabitants of this no-man’s land begins with a buffalo’s rescue from a ditch. The men herd the cattle, the women milk the cows and make cheese. People slaughter their beasts, eat, bicker with each other, celebrate a wedding. A tragedy takes place at the end. And over and over again, we look into the face of this buffalo and see through its eyes a world that is out of joint but in which life goes on. A film of raw, suggestive, mysterious lyricism.
