MY SWEET LITTLE VILLAGE

Highlights

The big and small events, joys and sorrows of the inhabitants of an idyllic Czech village are the subject of this melancholy comedy. Among the village community are the doctor Skružný who prefers giving advice to prescribing medicine and who causes a small accident each time he drives his car; Jarda, the chubby-cheeked son of Pávek, who is unhappily in love with the village school teacher, and a beautiful young wife and her young lover Vaclav. In the center of the plot, which unfolds in episodes, are two truck drivers though, Pávek and his co-driver Otik, who transport a part of the harvest for an agricultural combine in Krekovice. Short fat Pávek is fed up with his slightly retarded but gentle buddy Otik, with whom he argues all the time. He plans to separate from him after the harvest season. Thereupon, Otik shall be resettled to Prague because a party official has his eye on his small country house. This plan causes unrest in the village. During Thanksgiving, the events come thick and fast and everything points towards a catastrophe. But when Pávek changes his mind and wants to get Otik back, the villagers unite against the official’s despotism.
