I WAS CALLED TO THE BALL

Symposium

In 2003, Studio Tatjana was shut down by the Lukashenko regime, but the filmmakers pressed on with their work: I WAS CALLED TO THE BALL is the studio's last manifesto, completed after its closure, using archival materials that escaped confiscation. The film documents the rise of the dictator, the political repressions – including politically motivated assassinations – from the perspective of resistant Russian and Belarusian politicians and citizens. An early account of escalating repression that highlights the ongoing and courageous acts of resistance.
