In 2021, Lithuanian filmmaker Šarūnas Bartas lost his daughter Ina Marija in an automobile accident. On the Pacific coast of Mexico, the country that Ina Marija had chosen as her home, he and his younger daughter Una embark on a journey to retrace her steps. Bartas transforms this personal tragedy into a deeply intimate cinematic experience. The storm-battered mangroves become a mirror and place of refuge. Without dramatizing grief, LAGUNA demonstrates how pain can coexist with the fact that life must go on. Bartas' documentary film is a moving quest for a way to reconcile love and loss.
