THE NEWBORNS

Symposium

The unfinished documentary film TAZEH NAFASHA by internationally recognised Iranian director Kianoush Ayari documents the final days of freedom in Teheran in the immediate wake of the 1979 revolution. Rare footage of the Iranian metropole captures the utopian sense of liberty on the streets before the founding of the Islamic Republic of Iran. "Because the original sponsor at Iranian state television refused to release it, the film remained unfinished, and the footage was confiscated. It was later posted on the Internet after a friend of Ayari's happened to find a VHS copy at a flea market in Tehran." (Arsenal – Filminstitut e.V., 2023)
