ALTERNATIVE HEAD

Portrait

Portrait of a sculptor who created heroic monuments during the Enver Hoxha dictatorship (1944-85). Throughout a 25-year period, the artist has worked on his own projects alongside the official commissions: small bronze or marble busts made of residual material from his monumental sculptures. When the latter are removed from public spaces in the 1990s, they end up back in the sculptor’s studio. Evening for evening, the workshop employees block the little door with a massive statue of Stalin in order to keep burglars at bay.
