CHICO

Highlights

Using a mixture of documentary and fictional scenes, the life of Chile-born Eduardo Rozsa Flores is described. Flores, who plays himself, is the son of a Bolivian Catholic and a Hungarian Jew who lead a middle class life in Chile. But from his earliest days on, Flores or „Chico“ is confronted with a world which is characterized by political unstableness: From the killing of Che Guevara to the violent overthrow of the Allende-government which finally forces Chico’s family to flee to Europe. So Flores turns into a human without proper roots, at home nowhere and everywhere, always searching for himself. His job as a wartime-reporter brings Chico to Bosnia, which is shaken by the civil war. Because of his descent he feels a specific bond with the Croatians. The helplessness of the people in the Balkans throws him into a deep identity crisis, because their situation seems to mirror his own life experiences: Chico joins the Croatian army. He receives the order to fulfil a dangerous mission. In this situation of utmost pressure Chico reflects on his life.
