Karrer, a longtime outsider, spends his time walking aimlessly through permanently rainy streets, only to arrive every evening at his favourite bar. There he meets a woman who will turn his life upside down. To get closer to her, he and barkeeper Willarsky talk her husband into a smuggling-trip that will last for several days. The four people engage in a complicated relationship with dissimilar interests, emotions and dependencies. A fight ensues, with Karrer finally being defeated. All that is left for him to do is to fall headfirst into “damnation”.
