EICHMANN AND THE THIRD REICH

Symposium

Encouraged by the success of his found footage milestone MEIN KAMPF (1960), Erwin Leiser ventured to take on the present with EICHMANN AND THE THIRD REICH, a film which provided historical context for then current events while taking up a position on a political process of historic import: the trial of Adolf Eichmann. Back then the movie theatre, as this film proves palpably to this day, was still a place where the present was developed, where history was made. Brauner was only a minority partner in the film, which is why it is only rarely appreciated in the context of his work – although its political significance is on par with that of MORITURI or THE MARTYR.
