FATHER FROST IS DEAD

Specials

The first feature-length necro-realist film of all time, DADDY, FATHER FROST IS DEAD, places a biologist studying voles in a mythical forest and lake landscape, in which vampires and a mysterious male clan go about their dark deeds and (pseudo) corpses float in the swamp reeds. Sleepwalking in the footsteps of the great Romero and based on the Alexsey Tolstoy story "The Vampire", Yufit creates a creaking, shuffling universe of spasms and creatures, inhabited by outlaws, the driven – the undead, plain and simple. Thanatophilia in its purest form: somewhere between immortality and world-weariness. At the same time, it stands as the most subcultural, subversive form of Russian film.
