FLOTACIJA

Competition

Flotation is a term used for the physical-chemical treatment process whereby copper ore is separated from waste rock. In the Eastern Serbian mining town of Majdanpek, the copper works have been bought out by Chinese investors. Still, life goes on in the town. The former union chairman's widow, Desa, continues to fight for workers' rights. Her brother Dragan has worked in mining his whole life, though he is one of the last dragon hunters too. Now, he is trying to preserve this family tradition to pass on to his progeny. Alas, climate change and environmental pollution have not only taken a toll on humans: dragons have also been heavily affected and increasingly forced to flee. This kaleidoscopic fiction-feature debut from Alesandra Tatić and Eluned Zoë Aiano is carried by its black-humoured protagonists: in their Majdanpek, magic and economic crisis collide.
