GOD WALKS BACKWARDS

Homage

The Iron Curtain has fallen, in Hungary the Communist regime has toppled. On behalf of his uncle the television journalist Marci sets out with a colleague to attend a political meeting in an abandoned police station. A chaotic scene awaits them: the site has been occupied by followers of the new political groupings in Hungary. When the assassination of Gorbachev is announced on the news, tanks suddenly come rolling up… Jancsó’s film about the demise of the Soviet Union is an auto-reflexive image spectacle and a provocative parable on the fall of Communism.
