GOD WILL NOT HELP

Competition

At the turn of the 20th century, Teresa, a woman from Chile, reaches an isolated herder family in the mountains of Croatia. She brings with her the news of the death of her husband, the family's emigree brother. Teresa only speaks Spanish, the family only knows Croatian. Her arrival unsettles the rigidly Catholic, patriarchal community. Lacking a common language, she makes herself understood through gestures and rituals. A close bond forms between Teresa and her sister-in-law Milena. Alas, envy and distrust cause the mood to shift, as Teresa becomes a screen for others' projections, representing both refuge and threat.
