I, OLGA HEPNAROVA

Czech Cinema Now!

With her aversion to social clichés and bourgeois etiquette, Olga rubs everyone the wrong way, whether it’s in the dormitory, at home, at work, in the clinic or in her brief love affairs with other women. Time and again she vacillates between feeling confident or awkward or catatonic or volatile. In the process, she hurls her contempt and hate out into this world in which she feels like a freak, destined to suffer the indignities of her surroundings. Based on real events and shot in hypnotic black and white with trenchant pacing, I, OLGA HEPNAROVA tells the story of an idiosyncratic, highly sensitive woman, who chooses to commit an act of misanthropic nihilism in an attempt to expunge her inner demons.
