IN SEARCH OF THE LOST LANDSCAPE

In 1946, the so-called “Recovered Territories” in the area around the city of Wrocław, Poland, became the largest European enclave of Jewish Holocaust survivors – 15,000 Polish Jews settled in Wrocław, while some 100,000 settled in the surrounding smaller cities. Leo Kantor’s autobiographical documentary tells the unique story of the Jewish community of Lower Silesia, which produced a rich culture and many exceptional characters after the war. Just twenty later, in 1968, this “oasis of the saved” fell victim to the anti-Semitic policies of the communist People’s Republic, leaving thousands of Polish Jews with no other choice but to leave the country.
