ORDINARY FAILURES

Competition

Hana – newly widowed – doesn't allow herself space to grieve. Instead, she befriends her late husband's dust-encrusted robot dog. When the canine breaks and she loses her job on top of everything, Hana's world finally collapses. Queer teenager Tereza runs away from home after she realises, she can't live up to her parents' expectations. Young mother Silva struggles to accept her maternal role and can't manage to seek help. While all this is going on, mysterious phenomena spook the city, panic breaks out and yet the approaching apocalypse initially remains a mere side issue for the three women, caught up in their own struggles against circumstances and their search for happiness. The weight of their own worlds collapsing is way heavier than the end of the world around them, which they acknowledge with a melancholy shrug. Sensitive and subtly feministic, ORDINARY FAILURES focusses on the human in the face of inevitable disaster, tackling questions of the current zeitgeist along the way, while also exploring themes of grief, coexistence, happiness and unhappiness in depth through the trials and tribulations of its protagonists.
