PRISONERS OF CONSCIENCE

Caleidoscope

Eleven filmmakers, eleven prisoners: this ongoing film project gathers cinematic portraits of individuals who have been imprisoned in Georgia for political reasons and are considered “prisoners of conscience”. The films respond to the increasing repression following the disputed parliamentary elections of 2024 and give faces and voices back to those who have been purposely rendered invisible by state propaganda. The project was initiated by the Georgian Cinema Is Under Threat movement, a coalition of independent filmmakers that opposes censorship and the political instrumentalization of cultural institutions. The series is intended to serve as a growing cinematic archive of resistance.
