From a media point of view, both Chechen wars were largely told through the lenses of foreign journalists – by adventurous lone wolf types who move from crisis region to crisis region. Georgia, 1999: the Second Chechen War has begun and Alex Kvatashidze decides to follow a female French photographer to the front. Until this moment, Chechnya seemed so far away.
