THE ELBOW (AS IT IS)

ARCHIVE PRESENTATION - CROATION CINEMATHEQUE
DOUBLE FEATURE
An allegorical short film that speaks of the “fundamental virtue” necessary for success by showing two twin brothers who literally “elbow their way through”. All that matters is the length and strength of the elbows. The film was made at a particular moment in Yugoslav history when political control over all aspects of cultural production and society began to weaken, opening up the possibility of film productions reflecting topical problems. The pronounced stylization – in both visual and narrative aspects – made it possible to comment so harshly on bureaucratized society.
