Based on Chechov’s story “An unnecessary victory” the film tells the story of a poor violinist who arrives at the court of a wealthy Count with his daughter. The two of them hope to earn a little money there with their music. When the daughter is insulted by the arrogant Countess, she tries to defend herself. But this is only the beginning of a whole series of humiliations and degradations.
