THE MARSHAL’S TWO EXECUTIONS

Portrait

On May 17, 1946, the dictator Ion Antonescu is sentenced to death by a people’s court. Cameraman Ovidiu Gologan films the death by firing squad of Antonescu and his cronies in haunting blackand-white. In 1994, filmmaker Sergiu Nicolaescu reconstructs the scenes for his fiction feature THE MIRROR. Radu Jude’s short film sets up a confrontation between the two perspectives of the execution.
