EDI

Highlights

Scrap collector Edi and his friend Jurek live in a dilapidated deserted tenement house. They make a little money by collecting junk and selling it to the local scrap dealer. Edi spends his spare time reading. His shelves are stuffed with literature classics. The books are his greatest treasure and the whole neighbourhood knows how well-read he is. One day, two dreaded small-time gangsters whom everyone simply calls “The brothers“, approach Edi with an order: He shall privately tutor their younger sister. Edi is skeptical at first. He knows how brutal the brothers can become if something doesn’t work out according to their plans; only a short while ago they have beaten a man to death. But finally he has no choice but to agree. The sister doesn’t show the least bit of interest in the private tutoring though. She’d rather spend the time with her secret lover, one of her brother’s business partners. When her brothers find out that she is pregnant, the young woman, fearing for her lover’s life, claims that Edi has raped her. The brothers take gruesome revenge. Severely wounded, Edi survives the attack. After the birth, the gangsters bring the baby to him and force him to leave town within one week.
