Beyond Belonging

DOUBLE FEATURE

Homosexuality remains strictly taboo in Russia. In 2012 Moscow courts banned gay pride parades in the capital for the next 100 years. Any pride marches planned in previous years also faced bans and were forcibly broken up by the police if they went ahead. This documentary portrays a young man who loves being a policeman and happens to love men too. Torn between his sense of duty and his personal desires, he talks about his anxieties, his yearnings, and what it means to be homosexual in a deeply patriarchal environment.
