DEVILS, DEVILS

Symposium

Roma set up camp right next door to a Polish mountain village. The old story of foreign and curious, friendly and hostile neighbours unfolds. It ends with a pogrom. Dorota Kȩdzierzawska’s cinematic interest has always lain with the margins of society, in her documentary films as well, whose experimental aesthetic she maintains here: fragmented images with slow pacing, lots of observation with few words spoken. One hears Romani as often as Polish. A highly poetic and problem-oriented film.
