DOCUMENTARY

Portrait

Szumowska interviews a number of acquaintances on various subjects like love, happiness, marriage, and betrayal. Following the cinéma vérité approach of Jean Rouch and Edgar Morin, she also shows how difficult it is to talk about such topics in front of a camera. After officially pronouncing “Stop!”, she leaves the camera running or deploys a second camera that films the first. Now the interviewees are invited to talk about their difficulties in being authentic. DOKUMENT / DOCUMENTARY is a meta-film that encourages us to think about the impossibility of objective truth in the field of documentary.
