THE HOUSE ON TRUBNAYA

Specials

Boris Barnet’s silent comedy combines formal experiments with key themes of Soviet cinema in the Twenties and Thirties. The film is about the contrast between country and city, about everyday life and work, and about a new consciousness. Paraša is a young woman who travels to Moscow from the provinces with her duck. Upon arrival in the city, she begins to look for work and accommodation. The hairdresser Golikov offers her a job because she is not in the union. Paraša works hard in the house on Trubnaya until she is befriended by a union representative. Finally, Paraša herself is elected to represent domestic workers in the local Soviet.
