FELKÉSZÜLÉS MEGHATÁROZATLAN IDEIG TARTÓ EGYÜTTLÉTRE PREPARATIONS TO BE TOGETHER FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME
Márta Vizy is a successful neurosurgeon who emigrated from Budapest to the USA around 20 years ago. At a congress in New Jersey, she meets her Hungarian colleague János Drexler for the first time. Márta falls in love on the spot and become fixated on the thought that she should leave her career in the States and move back to the Hungarian capital. The two doctors agree to meet there in a month, on Liberty Bridge – alas, Márta waits in vain for János to show up when the big day arrives. She does manage to track him down, but when she finds him, he denies knowing her at all. For Márta, this leads to a breakdown. In wonderfully atmospheric 35mm footage, Lili Horvát updates the motif of "amour fou" in impressive fashion, with an occasional elegant nod to François Truffaut's THE STORY OF ADÈLE H. Cameraman Róbert Maly's masterful imagery is a perfect manifestation of the ambiguous nature of this crazy love and the increasing displacement in Márta's perception: reflective surfaces are omnipresent, contours blur again and again, spaces seem to extend into infinity and Márta recognises the object of her infatuation everywhere she looks. Lili Horvát's second fiction feature is cinema in its purest form.
Born in 1982, and raised in Budapest, Horvát studied audio-visual art at the Sorbonne in Paris, before studying directing at the University for Theatre and Film in Budapest. After her film debut in 2015, she co-founded the production company Poste Restante in 2016.
